Mum could have breast cancer

Please can someone advise me. My mum is 63 and has just had a second mammogram where they found a lump and did a biopsy- it's not a cyst and now she had to wait 10 days. I just want honest answers please: does this mean she has cancer? Could the tumour be benign? She had a mammogram 3 years ago. Could the cancer be everywhere? I am so scared and so is she. Why didn't the nurse say it could be benign or could be cancer. She wasn't told anything and is terrified. Please can someone tell me some possible outcomes. Could she die? . Please advise . Thank you

  • Hi Laura, sorry to see that you and your Mum are playing the waiting game. All of us here agree that this is a horrible time and very difficult to deal with but unfortunately, until the results of the biopsy are confirmed, it is impossible for anyone to know what is causing your Mum's lump. As well as cancer it could be a benign tumour or simply fatty tissue so, as frustrating and frightening as it is for you, I can understand why the nurse did not want to speculate on what it might be. All I can suggest is that you try to distract yourselves as much as possible in the meantime by doing some fun stuff together, much easier said than done I know. All the very best to you both and do let us know how your Mum gets on, if you would like to. Take care  Sue x
