Much needed advice

I have my first appointment at the breast clinic on Thursday and my emotions are all over. My GP referred me after I went to see her with an incredible itchy nipple. Although no lump could be felt she noticed a slight change in the skin on my nipple. When she pushed upwards from the bottom of the breast it was extremely painful to the point it made me jump. Has anyone else had symptoms like mine? Can you have breast cancer without being able to feel a lump? I'm so confused. Any advice would be gratefully received. Thanks in advance

  • Hello Peaaches76

I can see that you've also posted in the Ask the Nurses topic area and that Celene replied to you earlier today.

I just wanted to post to wish you well for your appointment. Hopefully, the team will be able to give you some answers and reassurance tomorrow. Do let us know how you get on.

    Hi Peaches,

A very warm welcome to our forum. I am glad to hear that you have your appointment at the breast clinic tomorrow. You are doing the right thing by getting this looked at. Many people who are diagnosed with cancer are not aware of anything untoward and often have no pain. It is not until hey have a routine scan that they are often picked up. It is unusual to have pain with breast cancer, although not impossible. Also, not all lumps are cancerous. Many ladies have benign cysts.

Whatever you do try to steer clear of Google, as this will only worry you further for no useful purpose. Just a word of warning. You may not get a diagnosis tomorrow. Most of us get a few scans and tests, then have to return 1-2 weeks later for a diagnosis.

I sincerely hope that nothing untoward is found. Please let us know how you get on. We are always here for you.

    Kind regards,

    Jolamine xx
