mother diagnosed with terminal lung cancer

My 91year old mother was diagnosed with lung cancer in February.  Told it was terminal as several hot spots  areas so not able to treat.  Consultant said he could not offer her many years but many months.  Her health has remained good since then so we don’t know how bad it really is.  What can we expect symptoms to show and affect her daily life.  She has the odd pains in her middle back area, is this likely to be connected with the cancer ?.

  • Hello there,

I don't come on here often, and I cannot say that I have any experience of lung cancer. But I have (had?) "terminal" breastcancer throughout both lungs and liver, and I live with it every day.

Please do think about all the wonderful time you might have with your mother. Treatments are improving all the time. And many months could even turn into years :) They did for me...

7 years on, I am still pretty active and healthy, and the original dire panics have left me. I had so many pains back then, but now I'm here still and who knows why but there it is. I just live my life each day with the hope that I can carry on as I am. And so far so good :)

It was pretty hard adapting to my new situation after always being so healthy. But I did.

At initial diagnosis I found myself travelling immediately to my "deathday" in my mind.... but, in the absolute panic, I had omitted to see all that time I might have in between the diagnosis and the end.

    Best wishes, and huge hugs,

    Mary xxx
