Morphine patches

Hi I've got throat and neck cancer and eight weeks after radiotherapy I got an ulcer inside my mouth it's been there 10 weeks now and the referred pain in my ear (as they keep calling it) has been going on a year, nothing has taken the severe pain away. Last wed 30/11/22 I had a biopsy done on the ulcer and my dr prescribed morphine patches which take up to 24-48 hrs to kick in. I've now had patches on 50 hours and the pain is so bad I haven't been able to get out of bed since biopsy. Does anyone know why it would not work on me. I lie here waiting for the pain relief that doesn't come

  • Hello Lynlou

I'm sorry to hear that you're currently struggling with pain management. Hopefully since you posted this yesterday the morphine patches have kicked in and at least taken the edge of things.

If things haven't improved, please get back in touch with the Dr who prescribed them for you. It may be that they want to try another pain medication or even consider a referral to the pain management team.

I really hope that the clinical team is able to get a handle on your pain management and that things improve soon.

    Best wishes,
