money, money, money

My hubby will start chemo in a couple of weeks and is down for 4 cycles.  He is an engineer so has a physical job and 60 years old so getting another job will be difficult.   He will only get Statutory Sick Pay, We are also hoping to have the op to remove his oesephaus and stomach.  My wages will not cover the mortgage and bills.  Because we are not on benefits it looks as if we cannot get anything.  It is so unfair. I am so worried about how will we will cope, just what we don't need after a diagnosis of cancer when our world has fallen apart.

Has anyone been through this.

  • Hi try macmillan they have people to help you with this sort of thing, good luck

    Billy

P.s don't know if make any difference but if you've got or had cancer your classed as disabled,

  • Hi Billy,  did know about the disabled thing but ta anyways.  I have looked at Mac and Gov and it looks as if you can only get help if you are on benefits.  Hubby wants to keep working (thinking he may be having his head in the sand about that).  So if he does we are up **** street financially.  Hey ho thats life.

  • Youay get pip even if your working

  • Hi Jo just to ask how things are going I know you were struggling a bit please don't think I'm being nosy even if I am we were lucky I was retiring age and already getting my pension,, did macmillan help at all, hope you got something sorted, best wishes... Billy

  • Hi. I have just been diagnosed with stage 4 advanced cancer of the larynx I am having major surgery chemo and radiotherapy I cannot speak for 6 months then another op to enable me to relearn to speak

I am getting sick pay and it's unlikely I will be able to do my job I talk all day

we tried Macmillan.  They baffled me with all the info I can't have a badge even though I will be a neck breather.  My hubby is self employed and he hasn't been earninghas he has come with me to appointments

    we cannot claim anything

pip  is not available until 3 months into treatment then it has to be ongoing for 9 months

we can claim for a small grant towards nebulisers

But we need the money now to pay our bills.   I will need new clothes because of weight loss.  Travelling expenses

it is so wrong to have this worry on top of everything

if you never worked you would get money thrown at you. But nothing to help us
