Moles on labia

Hi

I am posting as I am terrified I noticed some small moles/marks on my labia minora. I don't know how long they have been there as I don't check all the time but they weren't there last summer. 2 are symmetrical but one is asymmetrical tan coloured it is less noticeable than the other 2. No itching, bleeding, multi colours, raised levels. No other symptoms. I'm 42.

I saw the GP on Weds and she said she doesn't think they're anything to worry about, even after noticing the asymmetrical one. She said she's referring me to dermatologist for a specialist check but not to worry.

now after receiving a fast track appointment for this Monday I'm completely freaking out. Why would she fast track after telling me she didn't think they were anything to be concerned about? Being a single mum I'm even more worried.

has anyone experience of this?

  • Hello starbright5 and thanks for posting,

Things like this are inevitably worrying, but I think most probably your GP's thinking was to refer you to the specialist to be certain and more to rule out cancer than anything else. The majority of people fast tracked for urgent referrals don't turn out to have cancer, but because a few do, it is important that everyone is seen quickly.

Try not to freak out and take things one step at a time. Searching online for an answer tends to make people worry more so try not to. It may seem a while away but Monday is close and you will know more by then. In the meantime do what you can to manage the stress and hold your nerve (not easy I know).

I hope things go well at the appointment and that there is nothing serious the matter.

    Best wishes,

    Julia

  • I have the exact same issue, I'm worrying so much but have put off going to the doctors due to embarrassment and not wanting to waste someones time if it might be nothing. I have googled (not the best idea) and as you can imagine it says the worst, I hope your appointment goes well and it's nothing to worry about. If you could let me know what they say I'd love to know, but completely understand if you don't want to share.

    Take care :)

  • Hello and thanks for your post,

GP's are used to seeing all sorts of conditions in sensitive areas and I am sure that they will put you at ease.

We would always encourage anyone with symptoms to get checked out by their GP as that is what they are there for. GP's are trained to look at different conditions and to look for anything that needs further investigations. If necessary they will also refer you to a dermatologist or another specialist.

Even though it is helpful hearing others with a similar condition everyone's situation will be slightly different so it is difficult to compare one person with another.

I am sure that it will be a relief to be checked out. You could always ask to see a female doctor if one was available.

    I hope this helps.

    All the Best,

    Catherine

  • Hi,

Thank-you so much for your advice, I'm going to book an appointment even though they aren't causing any discomfort or anything but I'd rather them be checked and know that I don't have to worry than leave them and be thinking it's something sinister.

  • Hi,

I have just come back from the hospital. The specialist  had a close inspection and said they all look the same under the dermatoscope and therefore does not see any signs of skin cancer and no need for biopsy. They have taken pictures and are going to reassess in 3 months.
I have never been as scared as I was this morning going in as being a born worrier I fear the worst. I was tempted to shy away believe me and am thankful I got the reassurance I did from the consultant.

as embarrassing and scary as it is. Definitely go and get seen, it is more than likely to be nothing serious and you will drive yourself crazy with worry if it's not checked out.

wish you lots of luck and let me know how you get on

  • Thank-you so much for letting me know how it went, I'm glad it went well for you today.

I understand what you mean about being a natural born worrier as I am the exact same, I'm going to speak to my GP first thing tomorrow and hopefully that'll ease the worry haha

    Thank-you again :)
