Mole Excision Results

Posted here a few weeks ago as I was panicking about a mole that Skinvision had flagged up as potentially cancerous.

Had a dermatology appointment three weeks ago and had my results through today - mole was fine. It did have some unusual changes, so it was a good thing to have it removed. The dermatologist was really kind and the excision biopsy was painless - the doctor who removed the mole played me some of my favourite 80s hits to keep me calm when he was doing it!

I want to say thank you to Sunny and nurse Naomi who gave me helpful info and advice when I was last on here. Also, shout out to Angie T (found your replies to other posters really helpful).

Lastly, want to say to newbies on here - if you're worried about a mole, don't spend time worrying - go call your doctor straight away!

  • Delighted to hear you got good news following the biopsy. Thanks so much for letting us know how you got on.

Yes, always best to check anything that looks unusual/suspicious.

Really good of you to post this. So pleased you had kind doctors. Always helps.

  • Hi Liz,

So pleased to hear that your mole was fine & that it was removed quickly due to it's changes.

Thank you for posting your results - it really helps those going through the same worry.

  • Hello I had a round scaley patch with red rim it started as a brown thing I told doctor a stand in said it's ok about year later I noticed it had changed dramatically and had been changing but with doctor saying ok I wasn't concerned until the drastic change very cream scaley it was also lockdown so I had a telephone appointment the doctor saw me said looks like Bowens disease skin cancer pre malignant, I saw the specialist she pulled the scaley scan off and said it hasn't gone deep so can treat with chemo cream come back in 2 months if not gone we will take it out, I can't see her as she's away and no appointments for at least 6 weeks they say because of the virus yes there aren't many in hull 5 at this time in hospital and it's dermatogy dept my friend had to wait about 8 months over all for her finality with her suspected brain tumour results because of Holliday's last year, I rang doctor and he said I'll get you a appointment to see a doctor within 3 weeks I have another rough brown spot that looks like my Bowens disease one luckily the treated one hasn't scaled up is still red and a big circle, I just wish there were more specialists and doctors ️

  • Hi Pixiejane

Thank you for your reply to my post. Yes, drs do get it wrong sometimes. My mole had an unhealthy look to it and if the doc had told me it was ok, I would have got a second opinion.

My doc was going to refer me to the telederm (was told it could be an 8 weeks wait), but I scanned the mole on SkinVision. It initially came out as low risk, but I got an email next day to say that their experts had reviewed it and it had some of the warning signs of skin cancer, so I rang the doctor again and used this to get a two week referral.

I'm sorry to hear about your experience and how long you have had to wait for treatment. Hope the docs get it sorted out for you soon.

I too wish there was more doctors/specialists and shorter wait times.

Take care of yourself. Wishing you all the best.

  • Hi,

I'm sorry you are waiting so long to get your lesion treated.

Sadly there is a 25% shortage of dermatologists in the UK. This is because there are plenty of doctors wanting to specialise in the discipline but it's an expensive discipline to teach & not enough funds are given to cover this. It's been like this for a few years but the length of waiting times are only becoming more obvious now because there are many more patients being referred for suspected skin cancer. When I was first diagnosed 24 years ago my local hospital (in the 5th largest UK city) had only 2 dermatologists. Today, there are 3 hospitals in the Trust with a clinic in each and 18 dermatologists that circulate around them but there still aren't enough!

I hope you manage to get your treatment quickly,

    Angie (Stage 3 melanoma patient)
