Melanoma scare

Hello everyone,

I’ve read through a lot of posts on this site and thought I would post my own.

I have a mole of my leg that I’m not happy with. It’s much darker than my others and just doesn’t “fit in” I’ve also been driving myself mad trying to work out if it’s gotten bigger or more raised. Took myself to the GP who thought it was fine but said he would refer my to the skin clinic if I wanted. I have my appointment on Tuesday and I’m bricking it.

I know I should take some comfort in the GP not being worried but I know that they can miss these things especially nodular melanoma (which I believe this could be). I now also feel like I’m totally symptom spotting! Every headache, every little twinge, I’ve also woken up today with a sore throat in my glandes which has just ramped up my anxiety x100 as I know melanoma can spread to lymph nodes.

I’m 26 and have a 1 year old daughter.

  • Hi,

I know how stressful this is but please don't start thinking every ache and pain is due to your mole. I'm the unlikely event it's cancerous it wouldn't travel from your leg to your neck nodes (it would go to the groin or arm nodes). Stress can manifest in many ways so that's probably the reason for your symptoms.

It's good that your GP isn't concerned but has referred you anyway because the consultant should be able to put your mind at rest. Many moles can look 'different' to the rest but it's not automatically cancerous. You don't have long to wait so try and put it out of your mind until then. Good luck and please let us know how you get on.
