Melanoma diagnosed

I was diagnosed with stage 2 melanoma the other day after a shave biopsy and am now waiting for a referral for a wide excision. I'm totally freaking out because this mole appeared two years ago and I saw a GP 18 months ago who said it was fine. It looks very much like the photos I've seen online of nodular melanoma which websites say is fast-growing, so I'm really worried that it will have spread. I don't really know what "fast-growing" means in terms of melanoma though - would it spread in weeks, months or years? My mum died of a different cancer just last September and it's so awful to get this cancer diagnosis now. The anxiety is overwhelming.

  • Hi,

I'm sorry you have had this diagnosis, especially when it's been checked before & I'm sorry that you lost your mum recently to cancer.

Until your consultant tells you what type of melanoma it is, please don't assume it's nodular due to images on Google. Melanomas present in lots of different ways and some that look nodular turn out not to be.

I've sent you a friend request so that, if you accept it, I can send you some information regarding Stage 2 melanoma that may help you.
