Mastectomy looming

Hi

I've been given a mastectomy as the only option available due to receiving radiotherapy in the past that was too close to the breast tissue. I'm asking you ladies as I'm to decide on which reconstruction method I want to have. I don't want the option that is tissue taken from the tummy as I feel it's too big of an operation.  Any of you ladies had the implant ?  Thanks in advance x

  • Hi BeckyP

I had a double mastectomy with an immediate reconstruction with silicone implants in March 2019. I am very slim so using my own fat wasn’t an option. The implants were put on top of my chest muscle and a mesh was used to hold them in place. I also had some lymph nodes removed. I’ve recovered very quickly, started to drive 2 weeks after surgery.  Everything seem to settle nicely, I don’t even think about the implants anymore. They feel very natural and look nice. There is still numbness around the nipple area but otherwise it’s all good :) hope this helps for you  to make a decision.

  • Thank you for taking time to comment, your story has helped me in considering the options. All the beat for the future x
