Mastectomy delayed

I was diagnosed with high grade DCIS beginning of March as I have had invasive breast cancer 12 years ago and had Radiotherapy I am not allowed it again and was due to have a mastectomy anytime now. Due to the Coronavirus this has been cancelled and have just had a letter to inform me my next visit to the breast clinic is 2nd Jul. I retired recently to help look after my toddler grandchildren but currently due to Coronavirus am not looking after them as not in the same house. I have volunteered with a home help company but a lot of my friends are saying that due to my diagnosis I shouldn’t be vo,unteering, can anyone give me any advice on this. I was told that I would not need chemotherapy again as it is non invasive.

    HI Madeline,

I am so sorry to hear that you have had a recurrence of cancer after all this time. I have had 2 bouts of breast cancer myself in the past 10 years, so know how devastating this will be for you. The length of time to your next appointment must be upsetting, but these are extraordinary and unprecedented times.

It is reassuring to know that your DCIS is non-invasive and that you won't need radiotherapy or chemo again. I expect that your breast care nurse is in the best position to answer your question, as she will have access to all of your medical details. You could also contact the nurses on this forum. The number is free to call and is 0808 800 4040. They are available Mon - Fri from 9.00am-5.00pm.

I hope that you get the go ahead to do your volunteering - a badly needed service in these uncertain times.

We are always here if you want to talk. Do please let us know the outcome when you get an answer.

    Kind regards,

    Jolamine xx
