Masectomy

Hi Everyone

Hope your all doing well

I'm new here, & was recently diagnosed with breast cancer, multicentric idc which is hormone positive. I'm 34 and having a right Masectomy on 27/10. Has anyone been in the same situation as me? If so how did you get on & how are you doing?

As you can imagine I'm terrified at the moment and I'm looking for some positive stories and people to keep me sane on the long road ahead

Look forward to your replies and stories

  • Hi there ..

So sorry your having to go through this so young ... cancers getting even cruler ...

Well I came on here in 2017 ... like you, scared at what I thought the outcome would be .. there were another 5/6 others joined in around that time ... all different stages and treatments... one lass started the thread "the good and bad" and lots of others joined in over time ...

Well 3 years down the line, we havnt lost one yet ... most of the others have gone back to their life post cancer... a few like me stayed around ...

One lass who went through chemo .. has gone one to have two little miricals ... a boy last year .. and a girl in a couple of weeks ... so if you see that thread take a look ...

I'm sure having a positive attitude really helps ... I think cancer wants us to lay down and never get up.. to just let it do what it wants ... well wer standing up to it ... sticking two fingers up to cancer... it's not about winning or losing this journey... it's about looking it in the eye... a lot say it's like a rollercoaster.. the scariest one ever ... up and positive .. plummet down and feel overwhelmed... we all get days like that .. but jump on , and hold on tight .. it's a bumpy ride .. but when you feel a tad weak ... look round and wer all on that same ride with you .. treatments have come a long way... so hold on in there ... • Hi Chrissie

Thankyou so much for the reply

I will take a look at those for sure....

That's so good to hear and that you're now on the other side, just seen that the Masectomy wasn't as bad as you was expecting so that's made me feel a little easier..

Its certainly been a rollercoaster so far, up & down. The waiting has been the worst part up to now. Now I have a plan of action & it's all falling into place...

Keep being amazing and Thankyou so much for replying

    Hi Kirsty,

I'm so sorry to hear that you are due to have a mastectomy next week. I have had 2 bouts of breast cancer and know how worried I was prior to both operations. First time I had a lumpectomy and second time around I had a double mastectomy. I found the operation much easier than I expected it to be. That was 11 years ago, and I have never looked back.

I hope that all goes well for you on 27th. Please let us know how you get on. We are always here for you.

    Kind regards,

    Jolamine xx

  • Hi Jolamine

Oh that's so good to hear,

quite a few people have said it's not as bad as you imagine it too be. My minds all over the place at the min, so it's good to talk to like minded people who have been through it themselves.

Glad to hear you never looked back, that's the way to go.

Shall keep you posted. Thankyou so much.

  • Hi I had a mastectomy in june...then went on to have radiotherapy.

    Both went very well.

My main problem is the medication...its causing joint pain...

As you are younger ...you will probably be on different medications so I hope it will be much easier...

    Good luck

    I'm sure you'll be ok

  • Hi there,

glad to hear it all went well for you and hope your joint pain soon eases

Upto now it's Masectomy, radiotherapy and tamoxifen for 10 years. Not 100% sure about Chemo yet until we get pathology results after op.

Thankyou for your reply and take care

  • Hi ya ...

So glad my angel on here (jolomine) has popped on ... she sure helped me through, when I was new to all this ...

Well just wanted to say ... hold on in there ... l only needed a couple of paracetamol after my total right masectomy.... still hard to understand that as had lymph nodes taken too ... some people find it more painful having just a lumpectomy... not sure why .. maybe taking a partial part, could bruse the other flesh there ... just guessing ...

Mine was her 2 negative... oestrogen positive ...my lump (little uninvited alian) was sent to the U S A for testing ... came back low risk .... so I didn't need chemo ... but had tamoxifen for 5 years .. though only made 2 years because of the joint / bone pain ... so weighed up the odds and stopped it ... slowly .. but some have no after effects... touch one you will be fine ...

Keep in touch ... any questions , one of us will probly be able to help ... you got this .. you kick cancers butt ... Will be thinking of you ... Chrissie xx

  • Heyyy guys

I hope you're all doing well

Just a quick update re my Masectomy on Tuesday.

all went well and I can home the same night, I'm recovering great at the moment. Just on paracetamol and codeine and I get my pathology results on 6th November. I can't look at it yet though as it sent me funny but that will come soon enough.

Thankyou all for my questions & putting my mind at ease it really means a lot. Take care all

  • Hi there ..

Well that's a big hurdle ... and I know how daunting looking for the first time is .. but honestly, what i thought on seeing mine .. and I was 36 / 38 DD before hand ... I was shaking a tad .. but as l looked my first thought was .. if that's the price I pay for still being with those I loved ... then I can live with that ..

Yea still have those positive vibes one minute then "oh my Lord' thoughts the next ...

But keep in mind , those pink boxing gloves... punching right back each time ...

Look after that scar .. don't over reach if you had lymph nodes taken too... give your body time to start healing ... I had to have mine drained twice ... so look out for change in colour and a hot feeling round it .. so sending you a vertual hug and positive vibes... flying right over to you ... always here if you have a question ... you can do this .. we don't know how tough we are till our backs against the wall ..

    Chrissie
