Mammoplasty and Mastectomy

Hi

Has anyone had this bilateral operation done, and if so, how did you feel afterwards ? I have had difficulty getting my head around this, but early days.

Mastectomy of one breast needed due to kind of scattered cancer. Surgeon keen to do mammoplasty on the other one as one inch Stage 3 cancer in that one. Started hormone treatment as oestrogen related 4 days ago.

  • I'm sorry no-one has got back to you about this yet Venicelagoon.

It sounds like there's a lot to take on board but hopefully my reply will allow our members who have been through this and didn't see your post the first time around to have a look and share their experiences with you.

We have some information on our website about surgery for breast cancer but if you'd like to talk through your treatment options with one of our cancer nurses then do give them a call next week on 0808 800 4040. Their phone lines are open Monday - Friday between 9a.m - 5p.m, except bank holidays.

I hope your hear back from the Cancer Chat community soon and all goes well with the next stage of your treatment.

    Kind regards,

    Steph, Cancer Chat Moderator

  • Hello I had the same surgery's as you dec2019 five tumours right breast multi focal full lymph node clearance also had a therapeutic mammoplasty o the left and 7 lymph nodes removed any questions please ask it's a massive shock and I still have pain now I had a skin sparing masectomy with implant take care

  • Hi

There don't seem to be many of us around !!! How did you get on with the radiotherapy ?

Which part of you is giving the pain ? I have a bit of a problem with mobility of the right arm where implant is. Been to planning appt for radiotherapy and referred for Physio. Appts booked though. Radiotherapy will be to left breast.

  • The skin is very tight over implant the  implant quite heavy I had radiotherapy to masectomy side and to mammoplasty side also small area of lymphodema to mammoplasty side after radiotherapy but no problems with Mobility on that side it's all on the masectomy side your expected to be ok but compared to some we've had extensive surgeries I was stage 3 er + her 2 negative it was hard only had 2 chemotherapy's as covid hit and they refused to let me carry on with cold cap I want to start doing some exercise but scared to damage masectomy side you will be ok with radiotherapy but possibly have pain for a while after and some redness on chest

  • I was told the same thing as you (finally) last Thursday about tightness, by Breast Cancer Nurse. Radiotherapy starts 23 August. What she did say though was to do the exercises because if you don't the muscles can seize up fast.

  • Let me know how you get on I think when your in pain you get anxious about hurting things more good luck
