Lymphoma symptoms

Hi, firstly want to say hope all who take the time to read this are safe and well given the current world situation.

This is my first post, a little nervous and wondering if anyone could ease my mind.

I've recently been to the doctors for a persistant lump in my neck, it's been there for at least 4 months. The lump is hard and not mobile located under earlobe/jawline.

I'm waiting on biopsy results for the lump in question, the doctor said that given my age its more likely to be some kind of cyst rather than lymphoma though I was curious if lymphoma symptoms can come and go?

I've been having horrendous, unexplained night sweats for around 7 months however in the last few weeks these haven't been as often.

I have another swollen lymph node in my groin area though its smaller and mobile so different from the neck lump.

Are there any lesser known symptoms of lymphoma? What are some of your personal experiences?

Sorry for no direct questions, my mind is running a million miles a minute right now!

Thanks :)

  • Hi,

Sorry to hear that you are going through this, I am going through something similar to you at the moment.

I have had a painless groin lump for a month or two as well as night sweats that have been going on for about a year or more ( I sympathise as they are awful) I've also had rashes & itchy skin and just generally lots of sore throats and illnesses.

My GP has written to a consultant to see what the next step is, all my bloods are normal and the groin lump isn't massive so I'm not even sure if I will be referred to be honest.

It's good that they have done a biopsy, how long go was that? Hopefully you won't have to wait too much longer and the news will give you good news. It's the unknown isn't it and the worrying constantly. How old are you if you don't mind me asking? My GP did bloods for viruses too and all that came up was positive for past EBV infection. You will have to keep us updated, will keep fingers crossed for you.

    :)

  • Hey [@Aimz21]‍

    Thanks for your reply!

I'm also sorry to hear you're going through this right now, it's the limbo of waiting that's the worst!

I'm 25 years old (F) and have been thinking this whole time that the night sweats were relating to the contraceptive coil I have but now there seems to be a lot of things considered as "symptoms" that I'd never have thought were related, of course biopsy may still come back normal so I guess we'll see!

I only had my biobsy done on Monday earlier this week (I'm just super nervous and given the fact I'd never considered lymphoma a little on edge haha) and was given the time frame of "from 3 days" for the results -  today is only day number 3 so I haven't heard before now but hoping I'll hear some good news soon.

I hope for your peace of mind you're also referred. Especially if there is any family history of cancer? Obviously I'm no doctor but I'd assume referral would be the next step if your bloods came back normal. I've been under the impression that it's not so much the size of the lump but more how long it's been there and whether it's mobile or stuck in place so hopefully you'll get a letter or call from the consultant soon.

Other than night sweats, the lumps, general fatigue and weight loss I've no other symptoms but all of those could be related to something else entirely or not even linked. I don't take the best care of myself so I assume the fatigue and weight loss are from stress as I'm "not feeling ill enough" for a cancer diagnosis if that makes sense?

    :)

  • Hi Quannahbanana,

Wishing you the best with your biospy and hopefully everything turns out to be fine. I haven't had any of the lesser known symptoms but I have been experiencing mild night sweats as well as fatigue and some shortness of breath recently which are all symptoms of Lymphoma apparantely. I've also been itching a lot when waking up during the night. I also have some swollen lymph nodes in my neck (four) and one in my left collarbone.

I haven't been diagnosed yet but have recently been to the doctors who seemed quite dismissive of me, saying it was all normal etc even though I told him the lumps have been there for a while (one for like 5 years which I suspect is benign because I would be seriously ill by now if it wasn't lol, and the others for 5 or so months). He did however run some blood tests on me which I am not sure will show anything, I am not sure what the next step would be though a chest scan was mentioned but "when Covid dies down" which is worrying, if I'm honest, what if it's left too late?

Out of interest how did you get to the position of being sent for a biopsy? I feel like it would ease my mind if I could get one but I don't know if my doctors will send me for one.

Wishing you the best of luck and hopefully it's nothing serious :).

  • Just wanted an update Quannah. How are you doing now? What were your biopsy results, and is everything alright? Hope you're doing well!
