Lump on right side of Neck

Good evening,

I am 27 and have an enlarged lymphnode on the right side of my neck so it looks like a lump. Ultrasound scan was done but doctor could not identify the cause of my enlarged lymph node so they have referred me to do a biopsy to find out exactly why it has enlarged. I have had the lump for more than 2 weeks now.

I am really nervous about the biopsy, they said they will put a small needle in my lump and collect tissue. Did anyone do a biopsy like this on the neck? Was it painful and did you have any side effects?

Any information will be helpful please.

Thank you.

  • Hello and thanks for your post,

I am sorry that you are feeling nervous about your biopsy.

The procedure will be undertaken by a radiologist who is specially trained at taking biopsies and I am sure they will explain exactly what they are doing to put your mind at rest. I came across this information on having an ultrasounded guided biopsy of the neck which you can see here

The procedure may be a bit uncomfortable but it should not be too painful.

Once they have taken the biopsy the pathologist will look at the cells under a microscope to find out what is causing the lump.
