Lump on right Side of back just below ribs

I've recently found a lump on the right side just below my ribs. I went to the doctors and he's sending me for a scan. He said it's quite big it goes under my ribs. I'm so scared I'm thinking of the worst. Could this be anything else?

  • Hi Kerry and welcome to Cancer Chat.

I'm sorry about the lump you've found but going to your doctor to get it checked was the right thing to do.

Waiting for tests can be scary but you're not alone as many of our members have been in similar situations and hopefully they will be along soon to offer their support and advice.

I think our minds have a tendency to think the worse when we're not sure what we're dealing with but hopefully the scan will show the lump isn't anything sinister.

    Kind regards,

  • Hi Kerry i hope you don't mind me asking as your post was a while ago I have exactly the same problem on my right side a big lump under my rib on the bottom rib it feels bony and big can I just ask what your outcome was as I'm now waiting for a scan Thank you

  • I’m similar, I have a lump on the left side of my back lower rib. It’s painless, immovable and rock hard. I was told after an ulstrasound that this was just an enlarged rib and that ‘bodies aren’t symmetrical’, but it’s only just recently painful when I breathe deeply and it’s a clear lump.

Would be great to hear anyone’s diagnosis

  • Hi I am the exact same to you, large immovable rock hard lump under the left rib. I have been getting slight cramping feelings around the area too! Would love to hear anyone's diagnosis also

  • Hey I have exactly the same thing and only have pain sometimes. Would like to hear your diagnosis. It's quite big and literally feels like bone.

  • Hi

I have noticed a lump just under my bra strap, right side back ribs.  Sadly I am struggling to get through to my doctors because of the corona virus.  Doctors have stopped online appointment bookings and over the counter appointments, will now only take appointments by telephone.  I have been trying to get through to them for the past few days but with no sucess.  What can I do?

  • I am in exactly the same position as you olando! Out of nowhere about 3 weeks ago i felt severe pain in my left side, i was struggling to stand straight for a good 2 hrs. It gradually faded to just discomfort, especially bending down. And thats what i was doing when i put my hanf on back to help ease it and felt the lump. Its rock solid and can definetly see and feel it. Over the past few weeks its almost like i have something causing extreme pressure on my side similar to when i was pregnant and a elbow would stick out. I want to obviously get it checked but i also would hate to put pressure on hospital staff at the moment particularly as getting through to my surgery is not happening! Have you got anywhere yet. I hope your doing ok! Stay safe x

  • Hi hun just read this I'm exactly the same I've just found quite a large lump well I think it's a lump on my rig side under rib cage into my back did u managed to get through x

  • Hi all I hope your all well

i have exactly the same thing that your all describing it started off with pain on my right side I felt it and could feel a lump I panicked and went to a&e they felt it also and sent me for an ultrasound the ultrasound showed nothing and they sent me away it was still on my mind and the pain still there a few weeks later so my doctor sent me for an mri the mri came back clear as did blood tests but the lump IS STILL THERE and they're basically telling me not to worry about it but I am worried about it and I can't stop thinking about it and I'm unsure of what to do next! The pain has subsided but the lump is exactly the same size and rock hard it's about the size of a golf ball but not as round did anyone have any other diagnosis for this or what's the update from anyone else on this thread I'm dying for answers and feel like I'm getting nowhere

    take care all

    janelle x
