lump on preauricular lymph node

hi,

im really sorry if this sounds stupid i just don't want to go to the doctors if it's something silly and not worth getting checked out with covid 19 going on atm..

around a month and a half ago i noticed a lump right in front of the tragus part of my ear, it's not painful at all it's just a hard lump. when i found it i just assumed it was nothing and brushed it off, but i'm just confused as to why it's still there now and it's stayed the exact same size as when i first found it..

so obviously i googled (i know that you can't self diagnose with google and that google isn't always correct) my symptoms and it came up with hodgkin's lymphoma. the only symptoms i've got is the lump next to my ear and night sweats.

my mum wants me to go to the doctors about it but i just thought i would see what other people think about it or if anyone's had the same  instead of rushing to the doctors with this world pandemic going on at the moment and finding out it's something that was not worth going to the doctors for and could have been treated at home.

thankyou so much for any replies or help i really appreciate it,

sophia

  • Hi Sophia and welcome to the forum.

As you've noticed a change that isn't normal for you, you should contact your doctor.

Even if you're worried about what the symptom might be, or about getting coronavirus don't delay contacting them. Your worry is unlikely to go away if you don't make an appointment and you won't be wasting your doctor's time.

  • Hi, I have found a lump on the same area just infront of the ear. I was just wondering if you went to the doctor about it?

  • If it's something that's not normal for you and is causing you to worry, it won't hurt to get it checked out. It's better than putting it off and letting anxiety levels soar through the roof.

I found a lump in my armpit, a swollen lymph node about a cm wide, just after the first lockdown was announced and I obviously worried about wasting my GP's time and put off calling them. I did eventually call and got a phone call appointment with my doctor.

Long story short, I had a few examinations and scans and it turned out to be nothing, most likely just lymph nodes that never went down after an infection. But my mind is now very much at ease about it.

  • Hi, I rang the doctor today and he only gave me a phone call appointment because of covid. He said it sounds like a viral infection although I'm not convinced. I've been having muscle ache on my shoulders and headaches. He said to phone back in 2-3 weeks if it has got bigger

  • Hi! I was just wondering how you are getting on? I've got the exact same issue and I also have neck/shoulder pain and my migraines are horrible at the moment. The lump is getting bigger as well. I'm going to call the doctors on Monday to see what they advise. X

  • Hi, yeah I still seem to have my lump it's just above the jawline infront of the ear lobe. Had an ultrasound done on it back in December and dr said it looks like enlarged lymph nodes but didn't see any masses or anything so I'm due back in March to have it checked again to make sure they haven't got any bigger. I'm still feeling quite fatigue too but trying not to worry. Yes definitely get in touch with your doctor

  • Hi this sounds very similar to what I have found.. did you manage to get any more information on it or did it go down or change at all? Jodie
