Lump on nipple

I have been referred to the breast clinic after getting a lump checked by my gp. It's on my nipple and I have had it for about 4 years...I had it checked when I first noticed it but my previous gp said it was a swolen milk duct. I'm now worried as this was obviously mis-diagnosed on the first check and I have already waited weeks for this appointment! Anyone been through anything similar?... the big C is a major killer in my family I lost both grandparents and my father also had a brain tumour when he passed away, as you can imagine it's got me very worried I'm only 21 years old and have a little one it's really getting me down and my friend have not been much help just telling me it's nothing and I'm to young ect... any advice/chats to help ease the stress would be greatly appreciated. Thankyou x

  • Hi Nickb97,

Welcome to the forum and I'm sorry to hear about the health issue that you're dealing with at the moment.

I'm not sure if there was a specific reason for you having the lump rechecked recently with another GP. It may be that this GP has erred on the side of caution due to any changes in the lump since the initial examination 4 years ago. It's important to remember that the vast majority of people referred to breast clinic are not diagnosed with cancer and until you've had your appointment and any necessary tests you won't know for certain what this lump is.

It's natural to worry about these kind of things. I know that most of our members here will have experienced similar thoughts and feelings whilst waiting for appointments, tests and results. We do have a great community of ladies who have had breast issues. It you use the search function on the forum (magnifying glass in the blue bar at the top of the page) to look for "breast cancer" you'll be able to post and connect with some of those members.

If you'd like to chat things through with our team of nurses ahead of your appointment please do give them a call. They're available Monday to Friday 9am to 5pm on 0808 800 4040.

I hope that you don't have to wait too long for your appointment. Do let us know how you get on.

    Best wishes,
