Lump on lower left abdomen

Hi I'm new to this but I feel like I need to talk to people who are going through similar symptoms to me as I feel like everyone thinks I'm going crazy for the bones of a year if not a bit more I have been getting on and off pain in my lower left abdomen there is a definite lump there that in my opinion seems to b getting bigger pain comes and goes in it at the moment it is really niggling at me ..my doctor can feel it but doesn't seem too worried . I've been for an abdominal scan a transvsiginal scan and a colonoscopy and all scans have come back clear my poo goes through waves of really loose stool or constipated sometimes with bright red blood in it my physio says she can feel the lump but wreckons when she manipulates it she feel the lump running through a muscle so she wreckons I have damaged it in some way but she says it def not q hernia I feel like the doctors keep. Fobbing me off I have asked for an mri or ct scan on numerous occasions and they keep telling me if there was a lump it would of shown up on the abdominal scan I just can't help but worry that there is something going on at least twice a month I wake up profussly sweating and I get random pains and cramps in my stomach when they did the trans vain gal scan it was so uncomfortable on the left hand side where lump is being felt but he said it was because of bowel wind  I just want to get to the bottom of it I'm sick of feeling like I'm going crazy

  • Hi Elainelainey,

I'm sorry you have these symptoms, but I'm sure your doctor isn't fobbing you off and making the best recommendation they can. Your tests are coming back normal so try not to panic and hopefully they can help you get to the bottom of it. If you are unhappy with the way you are being looked after, you may want to consider getting a second opinion you can find out more about this here.

I hope you find the reassurance you need,

  • Hi,

I feel like I may be experiencing the same problem, what was the end result you found?

  • Hi wonderwoman 7,

I seem to have the same symptoms as ElaineLainey also. Her post is almost a yr old, would be good to know what it was? I contacted my gp because i found a small (feels kidney bean sized or bit bigger) on my left lower quadrant about tummy button height but 3/4 across the left side of tummy button. My gp (due to coronavirus) is not seeing patients face to face unless considered an emergency. She has referred me for a scan but said it could take a while to come through. Surely if she thought it was serious she wouldn't be referring me under the 2 wk rule!? How are you?

  • Hi there,

I was reading down this post, looking for some advice, and came across your comment. What you said sounds exactly lile

what I'm experiencing at the moment. I had been having some issues for a while and it was my chiropractor that could feel the mass in the exact position you felt yours. I am currently also waiting for scans etc however feel that I'm not being taken very seriously. I was wondering if you are any further forward?

i hope you are very well and I look forward to your reply.

  • These are difficult times with Covid 19. I can feel a lump and a further mass in my lower left abdomen. Our GPs are seeing people but the first one I saw said she couldnt feel a lump, just a thickening mass. As I had breast cancer earlier this year I was concerned but thought that if she couldn't feel it maybe I was worried for nothing. However I could definitely feel a lump so had a second opinion,  the second GP said he could feel the lump but didn't think it was anything to worry about but he has ordered a scan to see if they can find out what it is. If you are still worried let your GP know and keep asking for a scan. Hope it works out well for you.

  • Hello everyone, I was reading through your posts and I was wondering if any of you had any results from your scans? I've also been feeling a hard mass in my lower left quadrant, I saw the GP and referred me to do a scan (just the fact he felt it too made it all scarier). I'm in the process to do it with a private health provider just to do it quicker but it'd be good to know what sort of results did you have? I'm not feeling pain apart from cramps on that side with air or before using the toilet, but it has triggered my anxiety therefore my whole abdomen and chest feel very tight.

    thanks!

  • hiya!

i hope you're feeling better. did u get results back? i'm an 18 year old female with what i THINK is a lump or lumps in my lower left quadrant. dull pain, quite uncomfortable and i seem to be struggling to make bowel movements. the lump(s) seem easier to feel when lying down.

i don't know whether it's a hernia, diverticulitis, ovarian cyst, etc. or something worse like cancer...or if i'm just constipated or something. i hope i haven't just been poking and pressing at an organ haha! but theres some dull pain. i'm very scared and confused. pain is slightly reduced for a bit after i pass wind.

does anyone have any idea what this could be? thank you.

  • Hi Oswaldpond,

I hope by now you have gotten some answers and that things are okay for you.  I've found this post because I have symptoms very similar to the OP. I first went to the Dr due to quite a worrying passage of rectal bleeding, which was similar to a heavy period flow and painless, so I went to check off that it wasn't hemorrhoids or anything like that. I've had a niggling, dull ache in my lower left side, just above my hip bone, for a long time, but I'd passed it off as a twinge. However it's gotten more severe and is a constant pain now. It feels like there is a mass there; it's painful to lay on my tummy whilst I'm sleeping and I can't ignore it anymore when my little ones are on my lap.

Thankfully my GP has been very good and I feel that she's being thorough with finding the root cause of this. I'm referred for a colonscopy and she has also referred me for an ultrasound to check for an ovarian cyst. It hadn't occurred to me that it  could be a cyst, I had been thinking along the lines of diverticulitis, and trying not to think about the possibility of cancer.

Anyway,  I just wanted to drop a line to say you're not on your own  and that I hope your outcome has been an okay one.
