Lump on areola

Hi everyone,  I am so confused. My health isn't good at the moment, but this is how this one started......

I found a small lump in my areola, it was hard pea shape.I was referred to breast clinic and had a biopsy (needle) done on same day December 2020

I never heard anything, so I took it as, no news is good news.

Then I recieved a call yesterday saying they mislaid my paperwork and could I go and see the consultant today.

I arrived, they asked if I brought someone with me, which I did.

I saw the same consultant, who was very very nice and he examined me again, this time you can see the lump.

He told me it had grown in the 8 months since my biopsy and that it now looks suspicious.

He said it could be small cancer? Small cancer?? I didn't understand.

So, I am down to have it removed in 9 days 3rd September .He said it had to be tested again?

I have also recieved a call this evening asking if I was OK and that will be seeing the specialist nurses on the 7th...4 days after the removal....now I am worried it could be cancer? Can anyone help? I am so confused because he didn't say fir definite at all, yet they are removing it??

I cant sleep, I can't stop crying, I am so worried.

  • Hello Twin33

I'm so sorry to hear that you find yourself facing a possible cancer diagnosis. It's obviously come out of the blue having thought that everything was fine following your biopsy.

We know that it can be a really difficult time waiting for surgery and then for the results. It's standard procedure for breast lumps to be sent away for testing after removal so hopefully, the results when you see the nurses on the 7th September will bring some reassurance.

In the meantime, I'd really encourage you to give our team of nurses a call. I know they will be happy to talk things through with you and try and offer any information, advice, and support that they can ahead of your operation next week. They'll also be able to help you think about any points that you might want to raise with the Consultant. They're available Monday to Friday (excluding bank holidays) from 9 am to 5 pm on 0808 800 4040. Do give them a call when you're able to Twin33.

Keep in touch and let us know how you get on.

    Best wishes,
