lump not shown on scan

I feel a bit of worrier and a fraud for posting on here but am hoping someone else may have been through something similar. I went to the doctors in May with a lump roughly 3cm in diameter just under my left breast. I was referred for an ultrasound which came back with them saying they couldn’t see anything. I can feel the lump as can my husband and two different GPs! I was the refererd for an MRI which showed ‘something!!’ but the lump moved when I was on MRI machine. I went back to my doctor who has now referred me for a biopsy poss removal. The hospital did say that the lump isn’t on the rib but seems to be under the skin. Sometimes it hurts and sometimes it feels like it’s pulling down on that side but nothing too horrendous. I had my appointment for consultant next Friday but they rang and cancelled it and I had to rebook. I now have to wait another 5 weeks! I know this is no ones fault but I’m so scared and anxious about it all just in case it’s something bad.

Not really sure why I’m sharing or what I’m expecting from you all. Reassurance? Advice? Calming words? Goodness knows!

Thank you

  • Hello and thanks for posting,

I am sorry to hear about all that has been going on in the last few months. You are asking for other peoples comments but as you have posted on the ask the nurses thread you may wish to post on a different section as well.

I think it is understandable that you are worried especially as this has been going on for so long without any real answers about what this lump is.

I'm afraid no one on here is going to be able to tell you what this could be. However there are always many reasons for lumps and bumps and most won't be found to be anything serious. I would have thought if the doctor's were overly concerned they would have arranged a more urgent appointment for you. The important thing is your doctor has arranged more tests to try to find out what this is and hopefully you will know much more soon.

Please do get back in touch if you need to, or if you would like to speak to one of the nurses on the helpline our number is 0800 808 4040, we are here Monday to Friday 9am till 5pm.

    Take care,

    Naomi

  • Hi Lovely,

Get onto GP and see if they can get you an earlier appointment or tell them you’ll take a cancellation if one comes up?

I think if they thought it was something suspicious they would have you be seen sooner....I know that probably doesn’t help your worry.... sending positive vibes to you.

    Much love xxx
