Lump in groin

hi I hope you don’t mind me posting, I thought it makes sense to get peoples opinions who are experienced.

I have found a pea sized lump in my groin, between my legs / upper thigh.

Im sure I found it months ago and thought nothing of it - thought it would be an ingrown hair and it never crossed my mind again.

I would say it’s pretty painless, maybe a little tender now I keep feeling for it but not painful where it’s made me notice anything.

Could it be a swollen lymph node? The reason why I don’t think it’s an ingrown hair is that it feels a little deeper and when I grab behind it I can feel like it’s kind of connected to something - something that feels like a tube / vein. Do you know why this might be?

one thing that concerns me that google has come up with as concerning is I have excruciating pain in my neck below my ear every time I drink. It’s been like this for about 4 years. Pains so intense I struggle to open my mouth. I just thought it must have been an allergy but looking online that’s a rare symptom of lymphoma.

More recently ive been waking up in the night absolutely drenched through, not every night but it’s happening more often.

I’m only 28 and I’ve recently had a baby (20 weeks old) and I’ve lost so much weight  all my baby weight was lost in 6 weeks and I’m even a stone lighter than I was pre pregnancy

I’ve made a doctors appointment for a few days time but I feel like they’re going to fob me off because I’ve been known to have a bit of health anxiety.

I could just do with a bit of ammo for them likely saying ‘it’s a fatty lump / swollen node ‘ etc etc. What should I say and what should I push for?

Thanks

  • Hi Rachael and welcome to the forum.

I'm sorry to read about the lump you've found in your groin and the symptoms you've been experiencing lately but am pleased to read that you've booked a doctor's appointment to get yourself checked. Only your doctor will be able to let you know what this may be but you're more than welcome to give our cancer nurses a call to have a chat about what you could say and ask before your appointment next week. Their freephone number is 0808 800 4040 and are available Monday - Friday between 9a.m - 5p.m.

Also, do try and stay away from google if you can as it can cause a lot of undue worry and stress as many of our members here have found out and now that I've replied to your post hopefully some of them will pop by soon to offer their support and advice.

Good luck for next week Rachael, we'll be thinking of you and will have our fingers crossed this isn't anything to be concerned about.

    Kind regards,

    Steph, Cancer Chat Moderator

  • So I had an appointment with my gp and she found another lump in my neck and another in armpit.

My blood tests have come up normal but still referred to oncology 2 week urgent referral.

I’m just trying to fathom why my glands would be swollen if I’ve no infection. Surely an infection would show in my blood results?

Are there any other reasons for swollen nodes for something that wouldn’t be picked up on bloods?

  • Hi I hope you are well, I was wondering how your appointment with the hospital went? I am in a similar situation in the I have found a lump in my groin but also in my breast and awaiting appointment for follow up.

  • Hi Rachael

    I hope you're well.

I just wanted to check how your appointments went? I found a lump in my groin around April this year but it took until August when it got bigger to go to the doctor's. I have a scan on the 27th, im having sleepless nights thinking about it now.

  • I'm in the same position. Felt it a few weeks ago when having a shower and thought maybe it was a boil or something but it feels like it's connected to something and it's still rhere. I've had pain around the pelvic area and I'm stressing that it's connected.  I have to wait two weeks before there's an available appointment with my GP. I just have to keep telling myself to stay away from Google but obviously I am not doing a good job because it has brought me here!

  • Hello would you mind telling me what had happened after yours appointments I have the same issue and I'm nervous waiting for an ultrasound. Hope you are ok now. Thanks

  • Hi Rachael,

I'm still in the process at the moment. I went private with Bupa through work. I saw a consultant about 3 weeks ago, he wanted to leave it 6 weeks to see if it goes down (I'm not hopeful). I have however done some research and started taking turmaric and manjistha supplements and started yoga. It hasn't gone but it's not as painful. The next step is to decide if it should be removed, although no one seems worried about it. I hope you're ok and please try not to worry.

  • Hi sorry responded to the wrong comment, can you see my response on the thread?

  • Hi any updates hope all ok?

  • Hi. I was due to have my node removed on the 16th June but was cancelled due to covid. Operation will now be 16th July, hopefully get some answers then.
