Low grade dyskaryosis and high risk HPV

Got my letter the other day and feel quite upset by the fact I have HPV and I will never know where I got it from but makes me feel dirty. I'm praying all will be ok. It is on my mind alot and got a date of end of Oct for the colposcopy.

It makes me really nervous waiting.

  • Hi St1985 and welcome to the forum.

There can be a lot of confusion surrounding HPV but I hope these FAQs will help answer some of your questions and make your results easier to understand.

I'm sure some of our members who have had the same results from their cervical screenings will be along soon for a chat but in the meantime I hope this information we have about the colposcopy will help you prepare for your appointment next month.

Our cancer nurses are also available for a chat on 0808 800 4040, Monday - Friday between 9a.m - 5p.m.

    Kind regards,

  • Hey, did you have your colposcopy result yet? I am got a high risk hpv and low grade dykaryosis in my smear test result and I am worried sick. Can bearly sleep at night.

  • Hi, have you had your colposcopy yet? I have the same result. I haven't been sexually active for years now. I have two boys at primary school age and I'm worried sick. I have booked a colposcopy privately as I was told I would be waiting 20 weeks on the NHS due to the backlogs. Like yourself Emily no can hardly sleep due to worry. I wonder why my body never cleared this before or why was it never mentioned that I had it. And how will my body clear it now tmif it's been dormant for years?! I am also worried about the possible spread of it to other areas of the body.

. Happy to chat to anyone on here with experience x

  • Hi, I had the same result in December, I've been a mess ever since. Have you had your colposcopy?

I went for mine last Friday. The procedure wasn't pleasant but it wasn't awful either. They took a biopsy and that was fine, I had no adverse affects afterwards but them taking a biopsy has only added to my worries, 4-6 week wait now for the results of that. I've read all that I can online, it's all that I think about and what's coming next.

  • Hi

    Just after some advice.

My daughter has been diagnosed with HPV and low grade dyskaryosis following her first routine smear test (age 24). She is having to wait seven weeks for a colposcopy appointment and is worried if waiting this long will make things worse?

    Thanks

  • Hello Maisy123

I'm sorry to hear that your daughter's recent cervical screening result came back positive for HPV with low-grade dyskaryosis. It's understandable that she's feeling anxious about things.

It's can help to remember that many, many women receive the same kind of results every year and that low-grade dyskaryosis doesn't mean that she has cancer.

There's lots of good, sound information available on the Jo's Trust website and if she wanted to speak to someone for some further information and assurance they do have a support line that she can call. The details are on their web pages.

    Best wishes,
