Lost mum to breast cancer on weds

Hi all, my mum put up an amazing fight but lost it on Wednesday, only a few days after finishing radiotherapy. I just wanted to say, definitely not an expert on these things, but there seems to be lots of different types of breast cancer, relating to whether it’s hormone receptive or not, and also to genetic mutations in the blood. My mum had a rare type, triple negative, they also found a marker in her blood and had matched her to trial called PlasmaMatch, unfortunately she didn’t get to take part, however, they were trialing drugs aimed at 4 different types of breast cancers, as they have realised that chemo as a standard treatment doesn’t work on some tumours  at all, and as in the case of my mum, appeared to make it more aggressive.

I would urge anyone who has a relative or are themselves diagnosed with breast cancer to ask for the blood test. I don’t think it’s routinely offered by the NHS, mum only got offered it in October , by which time she had already had a lot of chemo which I really think she didn’t need.

take care

  • Hello lynseys,

I am so sorry to hear your mum has recently passed away. Our sincere condolences from the Cancer Chat team.

Thank you so much for taking the trouble to share your experience here and for thinking about others in a similar situation and urging them to ask for the blood test which detects genetic mutations in the blood. This is incredibly thoughtful of you at a time when you are suffering a great loss.

We are all thinking of you and your family during this difficult time and the forum is always here if you ever need to talk to others who have also recently lost a parent to cancer.

    Best wishes,

    Lucie, Cancer Chat Moderator
