lobular cancer - Anyone else

3 weeks ago was diagnosed with Lobular cancer, surgery is 1st April, know the process is surgery, then 3wks of radiotherep everyday, then medication, the people who are close and had breast cancer are great but do not know much about nine, my sisterinlaw and friend did not understand the wire, is anyone in the Sam boat as me ????

  • Hi, I had a WLE and SNB operation four weeks ago today. I was told I had invasive lobular grade 2, but they found ductal too. They managed to get it all with clear margins the first time. The three sentinel nodes they took were also clear. I'm doing fine, keeping up the exercises to avoid cording. I have my radiotherapy planning appointment on Monday and will start 3 weeks radio after easter. I have also been given the choice of tablets I can take, tamoxifen for 5 years, tamoxifen for 2 years then letrozole for 3 years or just letrozole for 5 years. I am really confused which to choose. I have been feeling really tired since but just being kind to myself and resting. Hope you get your op date soon, then you will be on your journey. Unfortunately that's all I am concentrating on, waiting for the next stage to start and this year has flown by. Xxxx

  • Had Lobular grade 2 on one side and Tubular grade 1 on the other. WLE and SNB for both on13/03/15.

Had nuclear injecton and wire placement for each the day before surgery. Not pleasant but the wire means your surgeon can locate the tumor directly with minimum incision and invasion.

Have since developed a seroma on one side, the size of a squashed orange and pretty sore. Everything else is healing nicely though and I am now waiting to get my radiotherapy appointment date.

    Back to work tomorrow.

  • I had lobular breast cancer found by a routine mamagram.  I was told Lobular cancer is difficult to detect and the reason for the wire is showing the surgeon  where the cancer is.  Mine was not a lump it was a thickening - I could not feel it.  Although it was a difficult time, after 3 years I am back working and feel physically fine.

    Take care xxxx

  • Good luck with your surgery tomorrow. Let us know how you are... x

  • Hi Daisyboo,

You seem to be about a week ahead of me on this exciting trip so I hope you don't mind if I ask a couple of questons?

Did you have an initial discussion with an ocologist before your planning appoinment or is this all done at the same time? (I have just been given a first date with the oncologist for 13/04/15 but wondered how long after that the radiotherapy will actually begin)

Also, I didn't realise that the choice of tablets was up to us. Can I ask if and what you have decided on?

    Thanks for your help..

  • I was diagnosed with a 13mm invasive lobular carcinoma 12 years ago. I know the fear and shock you

all share. Mine was stage 1 and grade 2 with no nodes affected. Please try not to panic. I am living proof

that most of you will have a similar outcome to me.  :)

  • Hi there,

Thanks very much for your kind words and yes, you are right, we will get there.

I start my radiotherapy in just over 2 weeks time and had my preparation session yesterday where they warned me that, because they will be treating both sides, I will probably get a double dose of the side effects too so that's something to look forward to, not!

Went back to full time working hours this week and am now shattered as a result but it was actually very good to do normal everyday stuff for a change.

    Take care x

  • Hi, sorry I didn't reply earlier, seemed to get myself lost on the site hope you are going on ok. I expect you are back at work now, seeing as you were able to go back before your radiotherapy. Hope that wasn't too bad and your skin held up. I'm still off work as I have a heavy job and there's no way I could do it at the moment. ( or maybe never again) we'll have to see. I have for some reason got an appointment at physiotherapy this week. What for I don't know, but if it's to help me get my arm up for radiotherapy, it's a tad late!  Anyway hope you're fighting fit again xxx

  • Hi there, nice to hear from you. Sorry to see you are not yet fully recovered. I am in the same boat and not back to work yet either but am hoping to return next week if I can..The treatment made me very tired right from the start and then in the final week the skin issue began and has been very uncomfortable despite lashings of cream. This has calmed down now thankfully but my boobs are still really tender so bending, lifting and stretching is a problem. (maybe that's what your physio appointment is for?)  Take care and do let me know how you get on.  Sue x
