    Hi Tylerbailey,

I note that this is your first visit to the forum so I extend a very warm welcome to you,

I am so sorry to hear your husband’s diagnosis. I lost my own mum to cancer. She initially had breast cancer for 11 years, but it spread far and wide in her final year. She had it in her bones, brain, liver and lungs and went downhill fast. It was heart-breaking to watch.

I cannot predict what lies ahead for your husband, as each case is different. Possibly the best answer you will get is from his consultant? The best way to organise this is to write down a list of all the questions you want answers to and take that along with you to the consultation. You may find that you will have some questions which your husband hasn’t thought of and vice versa. Can you attend his hospital appointments with him? This can be very useful in giving your husband support and also in having 2 people there to ask pertinent questions.

I have now had two bouts of breast cancer myself and my husband attends all of my appointments with me. He writes down the consultant’s answers to my questions as we go along. This is very helpful, as I only remember a very small amount of the conversation once we leave the hospital. Many people do this, so you will not be doing anything out of the ordinary.

If you want to hear from others with a similar type of cancer and prognosis, why not use the search engine on the blue banner at the top of this page? If you pop in some of his key words, this will bring up previous posts on the topic.

Chemo is often given at this stage to slow down the rate of growth of the tumours, but it doesn’t usually heal them.

Please stay in touch and let us know how he gets on. We are always here for both of you whenever you want to talk.

    Kind regards,

    Jolamine xx
