lifestyle risks and cancer.

Does my lifestyle effect my chances of developing cancer?

I have read a lot in the news recently about how obesity is the second largest killer linked to cancer and I was wondering what other aspects of my life style would effect my chances of developing cancer?

I was wondering to what extend can major lifestyle changes for example stop smoking and drinking alcohol, and also losing some weight, change the probability of me developing cancer?

I am also curious to know what cancer is exactly and what are some of the biggest risks to developing cancer?

*this was written purely because I am curious and want to come more aware of the risks of developing cancer and would be very grateful if anyone could anwer the questions*

  • I am not a medical professional. I just want to state that up front. You should always talk to your doctor to learn more about your specific risk factors. However, yes studies have shown that obesity is linked to an increased risk of cancer. The recommendations are to maintain a healthy weight, reduce alcohol consumption, get at least 150 min. of exercise a week,  eat a healthy diet, and no smoking. These simple things have been to shown in studies to help reduce risk, but that doesn't mean it prevents the risk all together.
