Leukemia Danger

HI!

I'm Mikaela-Rose, 16 years old, though I usually go by Kaela or Rose. If you had ever met me, you would have known that I'm energetic, loud and sarcastic.

But lately, I've been feeling sick. My twin sister, Makenna-Anne, is worried. I've been pale, running a fever, and I've been getting sick more often. My hands and feet are always cold, and my joints and muscles are sore and aching. There's an on and off pain in my stomach, around my spleen area. I'm always tired. Kenna's accidentally waking me up at 10 pm because I passed out around 9, way earlier than I used too on breaks. I don't eat since I have no appetite and I've lost almost 2kg now. I cough, and I bruise easily. I have this purple-blue rash on my legs. My period came 2 weeks early, and it's heavy. I'm weak. My veins are bright blue against my skin. It looks like someone drew on my hands and arms with a blue sharpie.

I'm scared. I don't want to leave my twin! She means everything to me. Should I go to the doctor, or, since it's only been 5 days, wait a bit longer till it gets worse? I don't want to worry my parents or twin any more than I have to.

  • Hi Kaela. Welcome to the forum.

Apart from the nurses, who work UK office hours, we're not medically qualified so we can't give diagnoses, only general advice.

So, since it's been going on for the best part of a week, and since your twin sister is worried about you, I think you need to tell your parents and ask for them to take you to see your GP. Show your parents the rash so they know you're not faking!

    Hi PrincessMikaela,

A very warm welcome to Cancer Chat.

I am sorry to hear of the great worry you have about your health at the moment. I am not a medic, but there are several other conditions which could cause your symptoms, particularly in a girl of your age, so let’s hope that it is one of them instead of what you seem to be thinking.

However, Telemando is right. You won’t know until you see your GP and get checked out. Your family will be even more worried if you ignore this and you get worse. Can you have a word with your mum and ask her to take you to your GP? If this is something sinister, the sooner it is seen to the better your chances of survival. Even if it’s not, early intervention is always the best policy.

Please let us know the outcome of your GP’s visit and I hope that there is a much simpler solution. We are always here for you whenever you need support.

    Kind regards,

    Jolamine xx
