Letrozole

Has anyone given up letrozole and still be ok and had no recurrence as , I ve been given four different brands now with Cipla being the best and sun pharma omg , terrible keg and leg muscle pains and it's not nice , I've cried with it and I have a strong pain threshold

any suggestions appreciated although I'm now on Vit D3 - K2 as advised by gp and doing yoga but I really think it's this brand of letrozole as ok on the others

plus I've developed a bone spur on the top of my foot is this due to letrozole ?

Thanks

  • Hi, like you I want to stop taking this horrid drug.It only gives more problems.Ther has to be something more effective.  This has been around 40 years my mother was on this ,& had same side effects then. Why oh why ? What ar others taking if anything. Is it because at 66 I get the cheapest? Is there too many of us? We just don't matter anymore .

  • Hi. I've been on letrozole for just over a year. It's side effects are horrible. I have awful joint pains, hot flushes and brain fog. I have acupuncture which helps and I do Pilates, plus I walk a few miles daily but as soon as I sit for a short while I get so stiff. Any recommendations for the best brand and how to combat the side effects ?

  • Hi, I am searching too for any comments on the side effects on certain brands letrozole. I was given one brand at the hospital and wonder if I should ask for the same one for my second box as just been given a different one from local chemist.  Thanks

  • Dear Wendy, Pipestril, Suehb & Shellie7,

I am sorry to hear that you are all suffering with the side-effects of Letrozole. I took Tamoxifen for my first bout of breast cancer. I took this for 1 year before finding another lump, in the same breast and taking letrozole for 6 and a half years. I had problems with both, but did find that some brands caused more side-effects than others. I ended up having both knees replaced and still have a lot of bother with my joints, 13 years down the line.

However, I am still here and living a busy and fulfilling life, which is the most important thing. The brand that I took is no longer available, but it would be interesting for many,  if you were to mention which brands you all find to be the best. This is a problem which affects so many people and, although individual people have mentioned a particular brand, there has been no general consensus on which is the least problematic to take. Perhaps by starting a post about the least-problematic brands of Letrozole available, this might help some of the many others who are also suffering with Letrozole?

Taking the tablets in the evening instead of the morning can help some people too. You are all perfectly entitled to ask for a brand which suits you, instead of whatever is available at the time. All you have to do is to ask your pharmacist.

If things are so bad, that you want to stop taking Letrozole, please talk to your consultant or breast care nurse first, as there are alternatives available.

I hope that things improve for all of you.

Please keep in touch and let us know how you get on. We are always here for you.

    Kind regards,

    Jolamine xx

  • Hi Jolamine,

Thanks for your reply.  I am new to start Letrozole and was looking for advise really as was given Sun  Pharma brand at the hospital and told to ask doc for repeat prescription -on enquiring at my local chemist they said they don't have this brand but can order it for me when needed - only been on it a couple of days. Was just wondering to keep to same brand as heard if it works for you that you can do this - I didnt realise this and only learnt this coming on here chatting.  Thanks so much for replying

  • Hi Shellie,

Pharmacists often work with whatever brand they are supplierd with from their wholesaler. However, your pharmacist can order a particular brand in for you. If you find the Sun Pharma brand working for you, it would be woth while to stick with it.

    Kind regards,

    Jolamine xx
