Just diagnosed with DCIS

Hi there.

Just wanted to say hello! So my quick run down is had a dodgy boob in 2013 (tmi but bleeding and clear fluid) had mammogram and ultra sound which were clear but test showed atypical cells. Specialist said to see if it stopped, which it did. But it popped back up again May this year. Tested again- again mammogram and ultrasound clear but this time when the fluid was tested he said he wanted to operate. Had full removal of milk ducts in left breast and analysis showed intermediate DCIS. Now have to have MRI and possibly further surgery including losing the nipple. Just wondering if anyone has had to have nipple or areola removed? I'm 46 next month but not sure if that has any relevance to diagnosis?!! X

  • Hi,

mine is invasive bc so not quite the same but I have lost my nipple/areola as part of a mastectomy. The reason for this was that some of my cancer was quite close to the nipple so the surgeon felt he couldn’t get a good margin.

once all my treatment is over I can consider nipple recon/tattoo. They also said I may need minor surgery to uplift the other breast as nipple removal takes out a portion of skin which results in the operated boob sitting slightly higher. (This is slightly noticeable post-op, but not too bad).
