Just been told wife has non curable cancer...........

Evening all,

I expect i am one of the many who never thought i would be joining a forum like this. My wife just 32 years old was recently ill - went to the doctors to be told she needed her appendix out. this was done the same day. over the next few weeks she didn't get better, kept going back to gp as she was severely bloated ( looked like she was pregnant but was told it was just wind ) in fact on one visit ( 2 weeks after appendix was taken out  ) she was prescribed peppermint tablets ... that was on the monday, on the friday went back again and was told she had a urine infection. Over the weekend she struggled more with her stomach to the point where it started to hurt to breathe - we called 111 and paramedic was here pretty damn quick. Was advised to take her up to hospital where the transferred her back the ward where she had her appendix out.

She had a scan and was told she was full of fluid, put on 2 types of antobotics and next day that was drained ( 3.5litres in total ) she was told that there was a non cancerous tumour that had transferred from her appendix to her bowel which would need to be cut out. Later that afternoon we were told that in fact on further inspection she had a rare form of cancer with no known cure on her appendix that had spread. We have been advised that its has spread through her abdomen so they can't cut it out. She hopefully starts chemo tomorrow, been advised if everything works she could live 1 to 2 years , if she doesn't respond well it could be months...

totally in shock, we have 2 boys aged 4 and 8 .. just numb…………….

  • Very sad news, Andy. Really awful. I can only hope your wife stays as comfortable as possible. Your tragedy is beyond words. Harry.

  • Just a thought Andy, but maybe it is a good idea to seek a second opinion, just to be sure, because appendix cancer is so rare? Your current consultant may not have handled many cases before so the second opinion should ideally be from another institution, and a proven specialist in appendix cancer. I myself was treated for another very rare cancer, penile cancer, and I am very happy that I sought a second opinion from a leading penile cancer specialist.
