I've got lymphoma

Hi everyone.  I've got follicular lymphoma.  I need 6 x 3 weekly cycles of chemo. Found the first one okay but this second chemo makes you feel so sick and out if it for 6 days or so. does the next 4 cycles get even worse?  I'm having R CHOP drug. I'm a 46 years old lady.  How interesting all your stories are.  Amazing people you are.  Any advice or tips however grim news might be is greatly appreciated.  Thanks. take care  Jesse

  • Hello superman,

Welcome to Cancer Chat. I am sorry to hear you are finding this second chemotherapy cycle particularly gruelling. We have some information on our website on follicular lymphoma which you may find useful. You can also read more about R-CHOP here and you will see on this page a list of side effects linked to this drug which includes feeling sick and very tired. I hope some of the tips given there on how to control sickness will help.

Hopefullly some of our members who have had R-CHOP before will come shortly to share their experience or story with you. If you live in the UK don't hesitate also to ring our nurses on this free number 0808 800 4040 - their line is open Monday to Friday from 9am to 5pm - they may well have some helpful suggestions for you.

Wishing you the best of luck for the remaining cycles of your treatment and that these side effects will subside soon.

    Best wishes,

  • Hi superman,

Hopefully some people with experience of the same chemo as you will come on soon, but just wanted to say that I've had 3 of FEC so far and each one has been very different.  First has short burst of sickness then absolutely fine.  Second had no sickness but never got back to work after it, chemo brain didn't seem to leave me this time and the tiredness was excessive.  Third has just been and I've had pretty bad sickness with it (needing IV fluids) yet now approaching day 5 I'm feeling great and I suspect I may get to work sometime this week.

I imagine that this type of variation can happen with other chemos too so don't feel too disheartened but make sure your medical team know what you've been experiencing.

You have my best wishes for the cycles to come, fingers crossed you get through them much easier.

  • Hi, sorry to hear that you are having sickness with your treatment. I had my first treatment today, although different to you I had R-CVP. The nurse told me they don't want me being sick and if the anti sickness tablets don't work I have to call them as there are others they can try. I hope it gets better soon as my biggest fear was the sickness symptom. So far so good with me, but it's early days. Take care xx
