Itching

hi since being diagnosed my whole body has been covered in this horrendous itching and now all red blotches anyone got anything similar driving me crazy

  • Hi there cj

    welcome to the forum

i was diagnosed in April 2014, but prio to that had terrible episodes of itching. It started on my feet and hand and would progress to the rest of my body. Where I scratched the skin would all go red

i could run mt finger nail down my arm and within a couple of minutes the line would come up red and start to itch

i went to the doctor about it, prior to any of my cancer diagnosis .... it called dermographia erticaria .... or it's known as skin writing

apparentkly many studies have been done and it's know that itching occurs with cancer patient but they don't know why ..... they think it's a stress process as the body is trying to deal with your cancer

its easily controlled with an anti histamine, mines called citirazine .... I am now 3 years in remission and get the odd bout of it, but nothing like it used to be

i hope you get the itching sorted and that whatever cancer treatment you are about to go through, goes well

  • Cjay

from what I have read your body starts the fight against cancer long before you know anything about it, this puts the body under stress and itching can be a symptom of the process ..... studies have found it to be true but they don't know why it happens.

anyway sorry to hear that thing have not been too good with you .... you have obviously been through it ... and it's taking its toll on you

so if you don't mind me asking what is your diagnosis?

as for me I had a head a neck cancer and am now 3 years post treatment ... so on the mend and just trying to get back on with my life

i hope things pick up for you soon

come back and talk to us on here and let us know how you are doing

    all the best
