Is it Tongue Cancer?

I feel like a hypochondriac but need some advice or reassurance. I posted last year about fears over throat pain and the synopsis of that was I was:

- the MRI in August I had for tinnitus showed nothing on toward,

- Gastroscopy in September showed nothing apart from some scarring due to hiatus stomach hernia. Given omeprazol to counter stomach acid and was happy in a way that this could explain the throat pain.

in January I went back to the doctors still complaining of a sore throat and despite antibiotics the discomfort was still apparent. I was then forwarded onto ENT and have a phone appointment for the end of April.

The trouble is things have got much worse since I saw the doctor.

Throat pain is worse and happening every day. Swallowing I feel like there's something there. Pain in both ears and tongue is sore too. Glands feel crampy and tender.

my worry is it's tongue cancer given the symptoms and if it is, the fact that this has been going on for so long concerns me that it will have progressed way beyond early stage.

Has anyone experienced similar symptoms for this long?

  • Hello RozzyBax,

I can imagine it is a very stressful time for you as you are waiting to talk to an ENT specialist at the end of April. I think you definitely need to flag the fact that things have got much worse so do give your doctor a call and mention this as soon as you can and make sure you also talk to your ENT specialist about these worsening symptoms when you have your phone appointment at the end of April.

Don't try to anticipate what it might be though as there are so many other conditions which could give you these symptoms and only an expert will be able to tell you more about this. The only thing you can do really at the moment is wait which is actually one of the hardest things to do as many our community members will tell you. It won't be long though now before you have a definite diagnosis. Try and keep busy and distracted and keep well away from Dr Google if you can while you are waiting to find out more.

I am keeping everything crossed for you that it turns out to be nothing concerning and that you can get relief from all this pain soon.

    Best wishes,
