Introducing myself

Hello, my name is Catriona and I have recently been diagnosed with a nodular melanoma, I have had a wide excision and skin graft on my shin on my left leg. This has all healed nicely . I am now really struggling with the emotional effects of having melanoma and the unknown progress or not of the  disease. I would love to chat to fellow melanoma sufferers.

  • Hello Catriona and welcome to the forum, but sorry for why you find yourself here. I don't have your type of cancer, I have others, but I wanted to respond to your post to bump it back to the first page so that someone with your type of cancer will hopefully see it and can relate. Cancer in any form is serious so yes it is scary to get diagnosed with it. All of us on here either have cancer in some form, or are caregivers to a loved one with it. I hope someone responds to your post and can relate to your concerns about having melanoma. In the meantime, keep checking in and respond to some of the posts that others have written.

    Take care.

  • Ive recently been diagnosed and keen to hear your outcome two years later. ??

    Hi Catriona and Dizziedancer,

The emotional effects of cancer are never easy to deal with. Like Lorraine, I do not have your type of cancer, but just want to advise you that if you go to the blue banner at the top of this page and type ‘melanoma’ in the search box, this will bring up previous posts on the topic, which you might both find informative.

Catriona, - can you not persuade yourself that now that you have had surgery, you are free of cancer?  Fear of re-growth is something which all cancer patients suffer with, irrespective of the type of cancer we have and it is not always easy to deal with. Did you have a biopsy before surgery and did this tell you any more about your melanoma? Have you had any further treatment since your surgery?

I have had 2 bouts of breast cancer, which was devastating at the time, but I am still here 8 years on and coping not too badly.

I sincerely hope that neither of you suffer any recurrences.

Please keep us posted as to how you are both getting on. We are always here for you.

    Kind regards,

    Jolamine xx
