Internal Ultrasound

Hi new to this, just looking for some peace of mind.
seen my gp today as for the past five weeks I have been experience high levels of pain in my abdomen and lower back, with a dark mucus discharge which doesn't smell very nice (tmi sorry) gp has taken a swab, and carried out a smear test along with a internal examination, which was very painful when adding pressure to my adomen. She didn't give anything away, but said let's see how the results come back in he meantime she would refer me for an internal scan, again not really saying why. She questioned my sex life, which is non existent due to it being uncomfortable most of the time and No new sexual partners either.

I have experienced very uncomfortable smears tests over the past 18 months, where in January I had a Lletz procedure to remove CIN 1/2 which came back all clear at the six month check up.

I wasn't worried at first, until she mentioned the scan, she said  they don't just offer scans for no reason. She's now got me worried about why she feels I need a referral, now need to wait for these results and my scan appointment.

has anyone else had similar symptoms, or anyone that can offer any advice, currently worrying, hopefully it will be all be for nothing.

sorry for the long post

  • Hi there, I know it's hard but try not to get to far ahead of things. Symptoms can vary so much and even if they are exactly the same it can be for completely different reasons.  Have you been through the menopause yet?

As your dr said there's lots of information they can get from the tests. It's possible that the scan is all you need to  know if anything is wrong.

My symptoms were different.  I'd had a watery pinkish discharge for almost 4 weeks and a deep dragging pain, slightly to the left side  of my pubic area.(this was previously diagnosed as ligament damage from the gym)

I got my appointment for the scan within the week.  Actually had it done on Friday 13th October.  I had the ultrasound to my abdomen but she couldn't see clear enough so did an internal scan.  This was very uncomfortable for me but showed a thickening of my womb lining , probably a polyp.  Deal with the scan  for now, there's quite a few other tests available if needed.  Please keep in touch.

    Sending you positive thoughts xx

  • Hi Suzydoll

Thank you so much for your reply.  I know I am overacting as it's just tests for now, and know I need to wait for the scan and then the results as you said it could be anything.

Your scan in October, what was the outcome of you don't mind me asking, was it a polyp?

    Kindest regards

  • Unfortunately not . Please don't let my diagnosis worry you.  Remember the odds are you will be fine.  To be honest I've been looked after so amazingly by everyone involved in my care.

I've had all the tests done now and my final diagnosis is Endometrial cancer stage 2.

Hope you're results come through soon and you can put all the worry behind you.

Please let me know and feel free to ask me anything.

Do you have any support around you?

Friends and family are sometimes harder to talk about it with aren't they?

Take care. You will get through this xx

  • I'm so sorry to hear this and thank you for still offering support and advice. Beat wishes for your future treatment, it sounds as if they are top of it all and I hope it's not too long a process.

i do have a fantastic group of friends for support and my mum is amazing, I'm trying to remain positive until I know what problems if any that I need to face. Do you have a good support network?

take care of yourself, wishing you al the very best.

  • Hi Booma, I have a few good people around me. Best support is from my husband, he's awesome.  We've been together for 34 years and just celebrated our 30th anniversary.

I'm really close to my mum and dad  but I try to hold back a bit with them. They both have cancer themselves.  Thankfully mum is in remission at the moment, she's got bladder cancer.  My dad is really poorly and is in the end of life pathway. He's got prostate cancer.

Glad you have good people around you.

    Take care xx
