Insurance worries

Just curious if there will be any reprecussions if and when I notify my insurance company that I have cancer.  I took out a

end of life policy 5 years ago and wonder if they will cancel it, or raise premiums or not pay out in the end.  It is costing

me quite a bit per month and if they won't payout at the end I would be out of pocket quite a lot.  There is no cash in or

cash paid in returned on this policy.

Got cancer diagnosis last November, so well into policy term before finding out.

  • Hello Ellen,

It is good I think that you are looking into all this as it can all be a bit confusing and it's important to know exactly what the conditions of your life policy are and to look at their small print in detail! It will give you peace of mind I think once you have figured out for sure what it all means for you.

We have information on our website on life insurance which you can access here. It might be worth also getting in touch with Macmillan who have a useful financial support tool here and you will see they have a number you can ring for financial guidance including questions related to insurance. You can find out more information about this here.

I hope you will hear from some of our other members who will have been in a similar position to you and  that they will be able to guide you on this and share their experience with you.

Good luck with all this and if you get a chance, let us know what you find out, you never know the information could be useful to someone else in the future!

    Best wishes,
