Immigration advice

Hi all,

I know someone who has cancer and has been given some few months to live by his doctor.
the unfortunate situation is that he doesn't have his residence in the uk and wants to return home to spend some time with his family in Africa.
he cannot return because of the treatment he is undergoing in this country. His family cannot also visit him because he doesn't have what it takes to invite them.
what a dilemma?

this situation really touched my heart and I thought the least I can do is to find out the options available to him.

I am trusting that something can be done on companionate ground for him to obtain his residency.

  • Hello Grace and welcome to Cancer Chat.

I’m very sorry to hear about your friend. It must be very upsetting if he is unable to travel back to his own country. The doctors looking after him will only have his best interests at heart and unless they feel it is perfectly safe for him to travel then I’m afraid they won’t permit him to make the trip and he won’t be able to get the medical clearance to fly which is required by the CAA. You can find out more about this on our website.

If your friend wants to apply to stay in the UK and needs help with applying for immigration, then the best people to contact are his local Citizens Advice office.

You sound like a very caring person Grace and I'm sure your friend will really appreciate everything you're doing to help them at this difficult time.

    Best wishes to you both,

    Steph, Cancer Chat Moderator
