Immediate reconstruction after mastectomy?

Hello,

I am more than likely going to have a mastectomy and would like an immediate reconstruction using my own tissue if possible. This is because I dont want an implant and want as natural a look as possible (particularly don't fancy the droopy/ pert boob look - would prefer two droopies ).

I will discuss with my surgeon, but I am limited on time as I am on holiday at the moment and return straight to surgery.

Does anyone have any experience or knowledge if they can do an immediate reconstruction with your own tissue?

Thank you xx

    Hi Coconutbean,

    Welcome to the forum.

As far as I know, you can certainly have a complete reconstruction with your own tissue. You really need to discuss this with your surgeon before you go for your surgery, unless there are any medical reasons that you personally cannot.

I know that you are on holiday at present and that you are due to return straight to surgery. If need be, it would be worth rescheduling your surgery to allow your surgeon to plan for this. Hopefully, there will be no contra-indications and it can all still go ahead at your initial appointment.

Do please keep in touch and let us know how you get on. We are always here for you.

    Kind regards,

    Jolamine xx
