Ignore or go back? (Breast)

I waited 7 months through lockdowns to see someone after starting with an itchy, puckered aeroela and nipple, it was waking me up in the middle of the night I could have ripped it off itching it's so bad, and nothing eases it. After all that time trying to get into the gp and never being able to get in I Finally booked in & went for a private mammogram I felt I had no other choice at that moment in time.

It  showed both breasts with lots of microcalcification but he could see and pointed out all the benign areas but said he was concerned with the area behind the itchy nipple, said because I didn't have private insurance he'd send me to the local hospital for biopsy behind nipple, 6 point blood test and different scans.
Got to the appointment and the new consultant said he didn't need to see anything, he was annoyed I'd gone private first and didn't want to hear id been trying to get in 7 months. As you can imagine I'd built myself up for the appointment but was sent straight home and told to wait my turn. I was called back a fortnight later, biopsy taken from side of boob and no where near the nipple which is really worrying me as the first consultant had already told me those areas were benign. No blood test, no other scan, and only saw the lovely ladies that did the biopsy never saw the consultant again. Waited a fortnight for results to receive a letter saying no other action needed.
i know the results go across a board so I'm sure if they weren't taken from the right place someone would have picked up on this?

the problem hasn't eased or gone away, I'm constantly exhausted, run down & nauseas. I spend a week or 2 thinking it's all fine they know their job and who am I to question that, but every now and again I have a niggle telling me to go back.  I just wondered if anyone thinks I'm being silly to question it or thinks I should follow it up? In all honesty I'm a little scared to go back as I feel I'd already upset them going private first I don't think they'd be too pleased if I go back saying I think they took the biopsy from the wrong place.

Any advice please?

  • Hi there

I haven't had a similar experience to you as I was seen quickly by my GP and referred to the breast clinic within two weeks. I only had a slight dimpling in my left breast which the consultant initially didn't think was anything to worry about. They gave me a mammogram and ultrasound and biopsy and found DCIS and then, after a lumpectomy, invasive cancer. I went on to have a mastectomy and implant and don't need any further treatment as it was caught early.

So my advice to you is listen to yourself and please go back to them and insist on another biopsy. You know your body best and although they are experts we are all only human and make mistakes. Ask to see another consultant if you can but please go back to them as soon as possible.

If it turns out to be nothing at least you will have peace of mind.

    Good luck!
