  • A very warm welcome to Cancer Chat, 57Newlands.

There are a few different types of benefits which could be available to you after a cancer diagnosis.

Macmillan has a really handy online Benefits Checker that helps you to work out if you're entitled to anything and, if so, what. You can also speak to one of their welfare rights advisers on 0808 808 00 00.

Someone may well be along soon to reply about the sort of benefits they claim but, in the meantime, if you try those as a starting point they should be able to help.

    Wishing you all the best,

  • Hi,

She was probably talking about Personal Independence Payments (PIP). It isn't means tested, so it doesn't matter how much you earn or have in the bank, but there are certain medical criteria you have to meet. If you have advanced cancer (Stage 4) there is a fast track process you can go on. Your local MacMillan team may have a benefits advisor who can help get this sorted out quickly.

    Good luck
