I found a little lump in my breast...

Hi again (I just posted about my 8 month old being referred on the two week wait rule) but whilst waiting for his appointment tomorrow I've found a small lump in my right breast.

My mum died of breast cancer at 49 when I was 11 and also my Granny had breast cancer when she was 43 and recovered but then it came back and she died at 72.

So obviously in double panicking and would just like to talk to someone please.

Thanks in advance,

Kathryn xx

    hi Kathryn,

Welcome to Cancer Chat. I am so sorry to hear that you have found a small lump in your breast, especially when you are currently having so much worry with your baby son. I hope that you got some answers at his appointment and that it is treatable.

I too lost my mum to breast cancer and have had 2 bouts myself in the past 10 years. It is so scary to discover a lump, as it raises more questions than answers to begin with. Have you seen your GP yet? This is the first place to start. If you explain to the receptionist the reason for your visit, she may try and give you the soonest available appointment. If your GP is at all suspicious, you will be referred to the breast clinic. This is usually done within a 2 week time frame.

Don't panic if you are referred to the clinic, as only 1 person in 8 who attend the clinic will end up with a cancer diagnosis. Have you breast fed your son?  It may be that you have naturally lumpy breasts, which happens to many, or it may be that your breasts haven't returned to normal after giving birth.

Whatever, the outcome, you are best to get this checked out as soon as you can. If the worst does happen and you get a cancer diagnosis, rest assured that it becomes much easier to deal with once you get a diagnosis and know exactly what treatment you will have.

Please let us know how you get on. We are always here for you.

I am hoping and praying that you will have a simpler solution.

    Kind regards,

    Jolamine xx
