Welcome to Cancer Chat. I am so sorry to hear that you have found a small lump in your breast, especially when you are currently having so much worry with your baby son. I hope that you got some answers at his appointment and that it is treatable.

I too lost my mum to breast cancer and have had 2 bouts myself in the past 10 years. It is so scary to discover a lump, as it raises more questions than answers to begin with. Have you seen your GP yet? This is the first place to start. If you explain to the receptionist the reason for your visit, she may try and give you the soonest available appointment. If your GP is at all suspicious, you will be referred to the breast clinic. This is usually done within a 2 week time frame.

Don't panic if you are referred to the clinic, as only 1 person in 8 who attend the clinic will end up with a cancer diagnosis. Have you breast fed your son?  It may be that you have naturally lumpy breasts, which happens to many, or it may be that your breasts haven't returned to normal after giving birth.

Whatever, the outcome, you are best to get this checked out as soon as you can. If the worst does happen and you get a cancer diagnosis, rest assured that it becomes much easier to deal with once you get a diagnosis and know exactly what treatment you will have.
