Hurry up and wait! Suffer in Silence attitude of hospital

My dearest husband and full time carer has been diagbosed almost 4 months after lumps found? Despite being on Cancer watchlist following skin cancer at local hospital. He's been wrongly referred, to Breast Cancer...as a way to get him in to system??

Still no treatment options offered or planned, an in East Anglia  and still have yet to see the Breast Cancer Consultant who my husband is under the care of? Despite having Non Hodgkins Lymphoma, he was told no other option than surgery to find out what it was? Depsite having ultra sound, and chest, torso CT scan with contrast on 1st July... Report wasnt even done until 15th July, followed by surgery 20th, where the hospital forced him to suffer until almost 16:00hrs after not eating from 9pm night before ...arriving at 06:30hrs starving and no control meds for BP,  He is also diabetic by 2pm he was showing signs of diabetic stress, on top of uncontrolled blood pressure.  It was all very cruel. So, his surgery at 4pm was stressful. We still dont know if one or three lymph nodes were taken ... Despite seeing the knife for hire last friday.  He had no answers, except see Haematology next Tuesday, do not know when?

Both his Mother and her sister died within 9 months of their diagnosis of Non Hodgkins Lymphoma. His mother on his birthday in 2013. He was abandoned at age 4, when she cheated on his dad and left him, with a four year old son, whom she tormented throughout his life. Dropping in and out, making promises, but never keeping any. She started treatment at Cork hospital Ireland, Aug 19th 2013 and gone by October 2013, her sister was pretty much same March 2007 diagnosis tongue cancer via lymphoma died in December.

So, trying to find out what we should be asking and why no one will even look at his family history? He gets to see the PART TIME HAEMATOLOGY NURSE ON TUESDAY, but hospital typistsor appointments, were not going to tell us what time until after letters get sent out next tuesday? Day of appointment.

  • Hi Claire

Welcome to the forum but sorry for the reason you find yourself here. I have no personal knowledge of the cancer which is affecting your poor husband and it must be so hard not knowing what is going on or when appointments are supposed to be happening.  I am wondering if a call to  your GP tomorrow could be first port of call as he may be able to find out what is going on (our GP was extremely helpful if and when we were left bewildered). It may also help for you to ring the nurses (freephone within the UK from landlines and most mobiles 9-5 mon to fri - number is given on this page) who may be able to offer some advice/explanation. Sending a virtual hug.Jules54
