HPV Positive and boarder line changes

Hello,

I am very worried as I have just received a text from my GP saying I am HPV positive and have boarderline changes to my cells.

I can't help but worry we I have seen my auntie go through cervical cancer and I am expecting the worst.

to think I am HPV positive is also worrying as I have been in a serious relationship for nearly two years. I just feel a bit dirty and stupid.

i am awaiting a date for a colposcopy, any calming advice would be great as I am really worried and stressed.

thanks,

  • Hi M,

I am sorry to hear you are worried! I would strongly recommend visiting Jo's cervical cancer Trust. There is lots of information there that should put your mind at ease about HPV and treatment etc. Hpv is much more common then you would think and the percentage of people that get it atleast once in there life is very high. For lots of women it can clear up on its own but for others the body finds it harder to fight off and that's when abnormal changes can occur. You are in the right hands completely! It sounds like it has been caught at an early stage and I have heard that the progression from this stage to cells developing into cervical cancer can take up to 10 + years or not at all - I imagine they will remove yours (it's a really quick procedure) to be safe (this is why we get checked).

I have recently gone through something similar, I had the procedure done to remove my abnormal cells. I am still waiting to find out what those abnormal cells were however (not sure if they were borderline or something more serious) but my fingers are crossed .

Good luck and I hope you feel better soon! As I said, you are in the right hands!
