HPV infection and low grade dyskaryosis

Hey everyone,

I have received results from my cervical screening today and it shows I have the HPV virus and Low grade dyskaryosis. I have been invited for a colposcopy in a couple of weeks time.

This news has really upset and worried me and I am trying to remain calm.

I am 27 years old and I have not had children. 6 weeks before my smear test I had the marina coil removed after having it for 5 years. At this time, I was struggling with hormonal changes and my body going back to normal. Just before the smear test, I had a heavy painful period for the first time in 5 years as my periods stopped whilst having the marina (which is normal.) I wondered if this could contribute to the abnormal smear test result.

My last smear test from 3 years ago showed that I was clear of HPV and abnormal cell changes.

Has anybody else had a similar experience?

Thank you x

  • Hello D-Fitness

I'm sorry to hear that your recnet cervical screening results have caused you to be concerned. I'm sure if you look through the forum you'll see that we've had lots of posts from women who have been in similar situations.

You may find it helpful to have a look at some information on the Jo's Tust website about HPV and about cell changes. They also have some information about colposcopy which may answer some questions and offer you some reassurance.

I hope that this information helps.

    Best wishes,
