How to cope with very severe constipation

What do we do to fight the very bad constipation whilst on chemotherapy

  • See your gp. I had very severe constipation during my chemo. It got to the worst point when I had burst piles and bleeding and it was so painful! The gp gave me, I think it may have been called fybogel. It s orange flavoured powder type treatment that you mix with water. It may not work for everyone but it s worth a try. Good luck with everything. I know how you feel. Best wishes Sue.

  • Hi Kimkim, I suffer with severe chronic constipation through other medications, I am not having chemo... However, I have tried almost everything, I'm not a clinician but I believe sometimes when the body is at its lowest and the kidneys are fighting hard, fluid gets drawn from the bowels to remove toxins from or blood Leaving us with constipation. I use softeners and laxatives I also take peppermint capsules for the wind and cramps. Talk to your GP as constipation can be very painful indeed and can cause infections and inflammation if left untreated. It is hard finding a balance with the laxatives but stick with it as it will help you to feel less fatigued and sluggish if you can keep everything moving... I'm not going to patronise you on high fibre and drinking more as that's a no brainer and you are probably already eating your own weight in weetabix if you are anything like me! All the best, here if you want to chat X

  • Thank you very much for your reply. He is now better. I wasn't able to post anything here, for no reason and this is why I am replying to you now.

  • Thank you very much Sue.

He is now feeling better, but suffers with severe pain because of the neuropathy...:(:(
