How long until I lose my hair? (R-CHOP)

I had my first infusion of R-CHOP 15 days ago and no signs of losing my hair at all.

Just wondered about others who had received R-CHOP and when your hair started coming out. Did you lose all of it or just most?

I am waiting and waiting - but still no sign of movement! LOL.

Thank you!

Emily

  • Hi there Emily... sorry can't answer your question, as I never had chemo but heard some people don't loose it, some partially some quickly but I'm sure our cancer buddies will pop along to give you more info ...

Love your picture, what a lovely smile, and the best name in the world as my amazing grand daughter shares it with you , pictured .. and welcome to our little chat room ... where we can ask questions, share experiences and even a rant too ... it really does help ... hope 2018 is going to be kind ... and sending you a virtual hug ... Chrissie xx

  • Hi Emily

Not sure what R-Chop is but I started losing hair after my third chemo.  Most of my hair had gone by the time my treatment finished except a few whisps.  My eyebrows also hung on to the end and thinned out so I had to pluck the last remaining stragglers.

If you run your fingers through your hair lightly and handfulls come out you know its started.

  • Thank you Chrissie and River.

I was told I'd lose all of it 14-17 days after treatment started. I guess I'm just one of the 'odd' ones. But hey, I did always like to be different! :D

I had my hair cut very short in preparation and dyed a fun pink (now turning blonde as the pink fades). I was rather hoping it would start going soon, so I don't have to have my hair re-cut!

I'll try the running my hands through it thing - and see.

  • Right, it’s started falling out at a rate of knots, so I’m going for the complete shave today!

  • You go brave lady ... now kick cancer right up the bum   ..... xx

  • Good luck Emily, we're thinking of you :)

    Kind regards,

  • Thanks Lucie and Chriss!

Well - it's still stubbly now as it hasn't all fallen out - most annoying. I was hoping for a nice smooth head, instead of which I feel like a shaved hedgehog and everything sticks to it. :D

Also just had to have my second chemo delayed, as my neutrophils are too low. :(

And have to self-inject going forward. NOT relishing that at all!

  • Hi there brave lady ... just wanted to say, my youngest son was diagnosed diabetic at 14 ... he had to go in hospital as his blood sugar was through the roof ... they wouldn't let him home till he could do his own injections ... he practiced on an orange for awhile till he got the feel, and he was petrified ... but when he knew he could only come home after he'd shown he could do it... he took it on and after a couple of days he was fine and never looked back ...

So the orange may help ... you can do this, look how far you've come ... your amazing ... we don't know just what we are capable of till we look it in the face and say "yes l can " ....

Let us know how you go ... keep on, keeping on .... big hug Chrissie xx

  • Thank you Chrissie.

Yes - I'm sure I'll be ok with it after a couple of goes. I just hate needles so much - but this is all with a good intent and outcome, so I know I'll get there!

I'll keep you posted on how the first one goes in a week or so.

    :)
