Cancerous lumps are usually hard, painless and immovable. Cysts or fatty lumps etc are usually slightly softer to touch and can move around.

This has come from experience - I found a rubbery, painless moveable lump in my neck which was not cancer.

Hey. I have a hard, painful but movable lump at the very bottom of my rib is it anything to worry about? 

I have a lump at the sternum, went to A and E, they said I needed further investigation but it was not an emergency.  As it is almost impossible to see the doctor, any ideas?
