Hormone side effects

Hi,

I am 47, diagnosed with grade 3 invasive breast cancer in November 2017. I had 6 months chemo, then surgery and just finishing radiotherapy. I started hormonal treatment 6 weeks ago (Letrozole and Zoladex)  I have noticed marked hair growth on my chin, upper lip, throat region which I assume is hormones. The sweats and flushes are nothing in comparison.

Has anyone else noticed the same? How did you manage it?  I am going to try bleaching but my skin is so sensitive.

  • Hello Gogglebox1.

I spotted that you've not had a reply to your post yet so I thought I'd stop by to bump it up, and put you in touch with some of our friendly forum members.

We have quite a long-running thread called The Good and the Bad, started by some of our breast cancer ladies, which you'd be very welcome to join. I'm sure [@rileyroo]‍and [@Chriss]‍would give you a very warm welcome :-)

If you'd like to chat to our nurse team, they may well be able to help with thoughts on hormone side-effects and hair growth - you can reach them on 0808 800 4040 (Mon - Fri, 9am - 5pm).

    Wishing you all the best,

  • Hi there gogglebox...

So sorry we missed your thread .. we do try to look out esp for breast cancer lasses as most of us our, although any cancer question we try to reply to all, but some fall through without us seeing .. so thank you nurses for noticing and thinking of us ...

Firstly welcome ... as Helen said there's a few of us here ... and the good and bad thread is like our safe place where we chat about all sorts not just cancer ... they are an amazing bunch who welcome any one ..  so we'll worth a look ...

I can only give you my experience of tamoxifen ... I went from feeling really strong and in control, to a weeping wreck in the first month, crying at everything and anything ... even ruined my son's birthday coz none of us guessed it was the tamoxifen ... once I knew I took some mild  anti depressants to counter act it it and was soon back to normal, with huge apologies to my son ...

Rilleyroo helped me saying she'd had a reaction too .. and had to end up cutting hers in half so it reduced the effects ... though I'm not advising you to do that ... but it worked for her ... I'm sure she'll pop by to help you too ... I've heard of lots of different effects since mine as if ive got it right, it does something to our oestrogen levels as mine was oestrogen bassed ...

Have a word with your oncology team and writs down any questions so you don't forget anything ... any time you would like a chat I'm here most days, so feel free ... take care Chrissie x

  • Please DONT bleach your skin ... there's so many exfoliators out there ... think your bodies had enough chemicals for awhile ... I have one and they hurt a bit at first but you soon get used to them ... x
