High PSA

Hi, husband was diagnosed in 2018, currently his PSA is 222, he's had chemo, radiotherapy, radium and further chemo but it's stubborn! currently in spine and ribs but not in any organs presently which is a blessing. My question is, we've been offered a trial of immune therapy but not sure if we should take this or find the money to pay for lutetium Therapy as NICE have not approved it for NHS use because of the cost. It's all so stressful!
Any advice greatly appreciated. Thank you

  • Hi VictiriaSponge and welcome to the Cancer Chat community.

I'm sorry to hear your husband's PSA remains high despite all the treatment he's had. As you say, it's clearly being very stubborn, which must be very frustrating for you both, but hopefully one of the new options that are available to you will be successful in getting your husband's PSA levels down and stop the cancer from spreading anywhere else.

Hopefully some of our members will be along soon to offer their thoughts and advice but in the meantime, if you'd like to discuss this with one of our cancer nurses, you can contact them on 0808 800 4040, Monday - Friday between 9a.m - 5p.m. They're very helpful and will do all they can to work through the pros and cons of these treatments with you.

You may also be able to get further information and advice from the specialist nurses and online community at Prostate Cancer UK.

We're thinking of you VictiriaSponge and hope you and your husband are able to come to a decision soon.

    Best wishes to you both,

    Steph, Cancer Chat Moderator
